It depends how good you are and what you are aiming for.

I think it would be very hard for someone who isn't good at maths (ie someone who didn't get 8/9 in GCSE) to achieve an A*, but they might get an A or B if they worked hard for it.

Hey! I just finished my A-Levels this year and got an A in maths.

Personally I really enjoyed maths. It was one of my favourite subjects alongside physics. Year 1 is really easy and I comfortably crused through the year although I found year 1 statistics to be challenging. In fact this was my worst few topics in the entire A Level. This isn't the case for the vast majority of people I knew. I personally seemed to struggle with it more than year 2 statistics which I found to be more enjoyable but then again that was my experience.

Pure is quite easy in year 1 as a lot of the content builds upon GCSE and then there are new topics like logs and calculus which you'll be taught. As I took physics, I found mechanics fairly easy as its a lot simpler in maths comparative to physics. You wont be at a disadvantage not taking physics though as again what I found is that the vast majority of people in my class found mechanics significantly easier than stats and preferred it. The questions are quite repetitive in that you employ the same method to the same style question and its easy to notice this so as long as you practise a style of question and perfect it, you'll be fine.

Year 2 gets a little harder and I found that the difficulty picked up quite quickly towards the end of the textbook when you begin covering A2 trig and calculus. These topics are the most important and you'll see this as they ALWAYS appear every year and can appear several times in exams across paper 1 and 2. Overall I'd say maths is doable. Its not that hard if you practise daily. This doesn't mean hours of intense work but simply doing all the problem and exam style questions in the textbook when you finish a chapter in class and then consolidating using old and new spec exam questions.

Don't be too nervous. Lots of support will be available and luckily maths is pretty popular so there are PLENTY resources available to you online so take advantage of those. Good luck and all the best. Feel free to ask more questions!
