Note taking

Best way to take notes for university?

Binder/folder and a4 paper do not work for me, I’ve done this type of notes before and I’ve never looked back. Not once.

Thank you in advance 🩷

Hi @sryan3

I feel like this is such a personal thing, and you'll probably find a combination of ways that work best for you.

But something I like to do is to take rough handwritten notes when I'm in a lecture or presentation. I like to add as much detail as possible, but I don't really care about the presentation of my pages. Later on that day, I'll put some time aside to go back over my notes and I'll type them up more concisely and neatly - probably with some form of category or organization. This helps me identify areas I feel confident in and some things I might need to go over later on. I like this method best when I'm working on essay based projects, but this could also apply for exams to help you come back and revise later on. And I'll even go back over presentations if I have access to them.

You might like my method, or some elements of it. Or it still might not be your cup of tea. I like a combination of handwritten and digital methods, and having everything complied on my laptop keeps me organized.

I found this article which has a few more notetaking methods which you might find useful. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/advice/best-way-take-notes-university

Hope this helps. 🙂
