Advanced Higher Maths needed for Mechanical Engineering???

I am going into year 1 of Mechanical Engineering at University of Glasgow. Can anyone tell me who has maybe finished their first year Mechanical engineering be able to tell me which topics from Advanced Higher Mathematics I should look over before beginning my course? I would like to take down fresh maths notes as well before starting uni.

I also did Advanced Higher Physics if that's involved too

Hey @patrickhale

Maths topics- Calculus, vectors, matrices, complex numbers, trigonometry.
Physic Topics - Forces and motion: Newton's laws, work-energy principles, and momentum.
Rotational dynamics: Moments of inertia and angular momentum.
Waves and oscillations: Since they tie into mechanical vibrations and systems.

It's worth noting that you don't need advanced highers for any Scottish universities, and that the courses will commence from where highers finish (and will also likely go through much of the relevant higher material again, albeit at an accelerated pace).

Hi there,

In your first year of engineering at Glasgow you complete a number of courses including Engineering Maths 1. The main topics in this course are matrices, complex numbers, vectors, integration, differentiation and statistics.

Best of luck with your studies!

Thanks,
Elise
