how to properly revise for gcse history?

i heard that history is full of content, unlike geography which i'm also doing. any ideas how to revise as i can't seem to find good enough resources online
Make flashcards (preferably from a textbook or class notes if theyre good)
Practice exam questions and mark them yourself so you learn the markscheme
Watch videos on the general period to get a feel for the time and some more context for source questions

Do plenty of exam practice and learn how to get the top marks through the mark scheme and don’t be afraid to repeat some past papers.
Good luck!

Hi I did my gcses last year and I got an 8 in history. I would recommend using something called gcse pod ( it’s free) you just have to create an account and it’s basically 3-4 min videos that explains a certain topic in history and it’s pretty much got every topic. I would also recommend doing exam questions once the content is down since exam technique is important and also get this marked by a teacher. Also don’t leave stuff to the last min cus history is very content heavy so the earlier you make ur resources the better. Hope this helps!

hi, i got a 9 in history last year, and honestly what helped me the most was seneca. there is like a mode where it just asks you a bunch of questions in a lot of detail in all the topics. it helped me strengthen my knowledge so much before the exam. in order to memorise content id recomend blurting.

For those of you who used flashcards, what did you put on the front /back
Like just dates or an explanation
Also I was struggling with the fact that the textbook has so much detail and I’m not sure if I need to know all of it or not.
Also do you think that making notes to learn the material is more helpful or using past paper exam questions and then going through the textbook and finding a way to answer them.
Also my teachers said that we can’t email them anything to mark over the holidays but I know that history depends a lot on the mark scheme so I wasn’t sure how to practice technique properly

For me it varied, sometimes it was stuff like ‘what year did…?’ And sometimes it would be ‘what caused…?’ Or ‘what was the impact of…..?’ Basically just broke the information into the smallest possible chunks so i could be sure that i could recall all the details.
If you’re struggling with what you need to know then id suggest looking at the spec- generally though the more detail and knowledge of a period you have the better.
Visual notes are helpful for memorisation but then applying your knowledge to exam questions is essential too so you know how to get your marks in an exam. Do a combination of both if you have the time i would suggest. I used to do a blurt on a topic, add my corrections and then apply to some exam style questions- i didnt write out the full answers, just planned them out to save time 🙂
For the issue with marking questions, you could post your answers for marking on TSR, get a friend/classmate to swap answers to mark if you can find someone to swap with or try and figure out the markscheme yourself and get a general idea of the range of marks youre getting and roughly how to improve.

I would recomend to consolidate notes about a topic in a peice of paper.

you can use Seneca. It is amazing.
