Eligibility for Masters

Hello,

I'm currently studying for my undergrad diploma at a non-UK university and I will graduate in 2026. After which I plan to apply for a Masters back in the UK. However, by 2026 I will have been out of the UK for around 5.5 yrs total. Therefore, I was wondering if I would still qualify for the Masters grant.

Extra background information:

I am a British citizen and I can prove I was in the UK between 2017 and 2020.

I can provide evidence that between 2020 and 2026 I was outside the UK on a student visa studying at 2 institutions: 1 at a language school to learn the local language and 1 at a university.

I already have a loan from Student Finance for a Level 6 qualification which I started repaying in 2019 but I have not contributed to since 2020 as I have been abroad and my income has not met the repayment threshold.

The masters I would like to do is not a PGCE or related to teaching/medicine.

As an extra question:
The masters I have my eye on wouldn't start until Jan 2027. Since I graduate in 2026, it would be much easier for me to stay in my current host country and take a temporary job in order to save money. Would this disqualify from a loan?

Hi there, As the study refers to 2027 academic year we are unable to advise on any funding that may be available or the eligibility criteria as this can change before this academic year. You will need to check back with us in 2027 for clear clarification. Thanks, Angela

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your reply. As the criteria stands now, for the current academic year, would I be eligible for a masters grant? (I'm currently working under the assumption that the criteria won't change before applications open for the 2027).

Hi there,

What country are you studying in currently? Can you confirm what qualifications you currently hold?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,

I'm currently studying in Asia. As of now, the highest qualification I have is an Undergraduate Diploma (Level 6).
Hi there,

For you to be eligible just now you would need to provide evidence that you were living outside the UK and the EU on a temporary basis. If they did accept that evidence then you could be eligible for funding.

Thanks, Drew
