Transfering after a foundation year!!!

So i didn’t get the A level grades i needed at all…but i have been told and seeing many TikTok’s made my students that say i have to score a 70% or above and i’d be able to transfer uni’s.

Im going to start International Relations (BA) Hons at London Metropolitan but obv that wasn’t my initial choice, so i’d be looking at Reading or Westminster.

Can someone help me please because everyones saying check ucas check course specifics but it doesn’t specify anything for transfers ☹️

Thanks
Leena

Generally speaking, universities want you to have met their A levels requirements before they allow you to transfer from another uni.

That's certainly Reading's policy (see here for confirmation).

I'm not sure of Westminster's policy. I suggest you contact them and ask.

Hi Leena, sorry for the late reply, but I hope this information helps you or others in a similar situation now or in the future.
Transferring universities after a foundation year is sometimes possible, but it's important to know that each university handles transfers differently, especially when it comes to moving into Year 1 or 2 of a degree. Scoring 70% or above in your foundation year is a good academic achievement, but it doesn’t guarantee transfer acceptance it's still up to the destination university’s admissions criteria.
Here’s what you should consider:
Contact the universities directly like Reading or Westminster to ask if they accept transfers from foundation programmes and what requirements they have. Some may ask for specific modules or credits.
Keep your academic records from the foundation year (grades, feedback, transcripts), as they’ll likely be needed during the transfer process.
Transfers usually happen after Year 1, not just a foundation year, so in many cases, you'd need to complete at least the first full year of undergraduate study.
At London Met, our International Relations (BA) Hons degree offers a supportive learning environment, and many students who start with us choose to stay because they find the course and staff engaging. However, if you do wish to explore options later, our Student Services team can help guide you through the process.
If you're still enrolled or thinking about transferring, you’re welcome to reach out to us: [email protected] +44 (0)20 7133 4200
Whatever you decide, we wish you the best in your academic journey. You're not alone and asking questions like this shows you're taking ownership of your future!
