is an 8 in maths gcse going to hinder my application for LSE?

i would apply for either pol/econ or PPE. I am predicted an A*, although I am aware that this is inflated and I fear LSE might see through this

From the website: "For GCSEs, you’ll need a strong pre-16 academic profile such as several GCSE grades of A (or 7) and A* (or 8-9).
We also ask for a good set of GCSE grades or equivalent across a broad range of subjects, with a minimum of grade B (or 6) in GCSE English and Mathematics."

"AAA, including Mathematics" is required for Pol/Econ
A*AA, with an A* in Mathematics for PPE. This may suggest that PPE is more mathematically rigourous? (or maybe there is another reason they ask for an A*)

What do you mean when you say the A* is inflated? LSE probably wouldn't be able to know this anyway...

basically my school tends to inflate grades quite a lot, and some of my teachers say that unis can sort of tell and they see through this. idk how true this is but it is slightly concerning since the only real proof i have of my mathematical ability is my gcse maths, which i got an 8 in

Personally, I do not know how unis would know this but I am not an expert.

You can demonstrate mathematical ability through (UKMT etc..) competitions and other super curriculars.

There is no excuse for not achieving at least an A grade for Politics and Economics.

Because there are excellent YouTube channels: ExamSolutions, HindsMaths, TLMaths, and BicenMaths which all cover A-Level Maths and even A-Level Further Maths and almost everybody gains an A* or A grade, and the worst students improve from Us to Bs or even A* or A grades as well.
