Are flashcards worth it in University?

I've just finished my A-levels and I am a week away from moving to uni. At my sixth form they really liked us making our own flashcards, which did help, but I wondered if it's worth doing the same at university because the style of learning is different. For some context, I'm doing a heavily coursework based degree with very few traditional exam assessments. Flashcards are good for exams but are they a waste of time if I'm mainly doing coursework?
Take this with a grain of salt since I start in a week as well and haven’t been to uni yet,

If your coursework has specific details that you might forget, it’s good to have them on flash cards. However I don’t think they should be solely relied on for studying

If it's heavily coursework I probably wouldnt bother with flashcards. Some of my lecturers would say things like 'don't bother memorising this bit' etc. If you decide you do need flashcards you could always use digital ones e.g. quizlet.

My third year opposed to previous years was coursework heavy bar two modules so used flashcards as part of my revision for the modules where i did have exams.

On the other hand, if flashcards help you memorisation/as a way of understanding or testing yourself, go for it
Yes but it depends on ur course

Hi

I have used flashcards also and it ultimately just depends on what you are revising and if you think that would work on flashcards.

I think a bit of a combined approach is the best.

I hope this helps,

Hi there!

I also switched to a very coursework based degree at uni, after being a flashcard user at school! Personally I have found it easier to type notes on my computer, as you'll typically be learning a lot more content, and I find it easier to type notes than handwriting. However, how you learn content at uni can be shaped to your personal preference. For example, I like to type my pre and post reading, and key points, in separate colours from my lecture notes so I can tell them apart more easily. However, if you find flashcards work well for you, it might be useful to summarise your lectures using them afterwards.

Overall, I would say don't be afraid to use trial and error to see what works the best for you! Hope this helps!

Hi!
It honestly depends how you learn best. Personally, I find flashcards very helpful for exams but for coursework I prefer to just have my handwritten notes and utilise them.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂
