Imperial, yes or no?

I was pondering if I should go to imperial or not, I unfortunately didn't meet my offer at Cambridge and is left only with imperial as the only school I could go to right now. However I don't really like the course(aeronautical engineering) nor the school very much for their high workload and for basically having 0 actual college experience(campus is literally smaller than my highschool and seemingly have a rather inactive student community compared to other colleges/universities). So far as my mental health is concerned, it hasn't been great for the past year or so. I am genuinely concerned that I won't be able to make it past the first 2 months in my current state of being, so I was thinking if their any other options, maybe reapplying? or taking a gap year or switching a course? or perhaps clearing to another university?

What courses did you apply to at other universities? General engineering? If you don't want to do aeronautical engineering then that's really the main thing and as you say, your options are either reapplying for 2025 or going through clearing.

I completely disagree that the community is "inactive". Practically everyone I knew while there was on a society committee and doing something beyond their degree. The student union elections get higher turnout than most other universities so people are definitely more involved at Imperial than elsewhere. The South Kensington campus is cramped yes, but IMO that adds to a feeling of community rather than taking away from it.

As for workload - it'll be less work than Cambridge would have been. But if you're not doing well mentally then taking a year out could be a good idea anyway - see if you can find some work during that time too and save up before you do start uni.

I applied for Aeronautical Engineering for all other Universities, but honestly it was only by chance I had some course work done in aeronautical engineering and also I was required by my school to have 5 UCAS choices or else I'd probably just applied to Cambridge alone. But I was wondering if theres any procedure that I have to do rn to apply for a gap year or do I just show up at freshers week and say I wanna take a gap year?

You could phone up the admissions office for aeronautics at Imperial and ask if they'd be willing to defer your entry to 2025 (if you still want to go to Imperial), but there's no guarantee that they'll be able to. Have you completed the online enrollment yet or no?
