A Level Revision

Hey guys, I've just started my second week of y12 and I'm still trying to figure out how to revise/make revision materials. For GCSEs I didn't bother with notes, I just watched videos to make sure I understood the topic, then I went through premade flashcards until I memorised them, then I eventually did past papers/practice questions. Using this method helped me get pretty decent grades.

I'm worried that this method will not be enough for A levels. I've started by just making notes in class then going home and watching videos, and using AI and different websites to make sure I understand the topic, then I use my specification and my class notes and other online resources to make flashcards. I'm not sure what else I should do . Should I type out summary notes? Or should I just use premade notes? And when should I start practice questions? Also, any tips or advice on how to manage my time for things like revision, homework and making actual revision resources would be greatly appreciated.

I'm doing Chemistry, Biology and Sociology btw and I have baseline assessments for Chem and Bio in like 2 weeks.

I found flashcards were a great way to revise during my A-levels. The best way is to make flashcards as you go along and then use practise questions afterwards. I would make a revision timetable, I found Google Calendar was great for this.

For sociology, I'd recommend Tilf - you can practice essays and get feedback and marking directly. I also recommend some free youtube channels like CrashCourse Sociology, good content, easily digestible.

Thanks for replying. Do you think making notes/flashcards based on the videos would be enough? I'm thinking of doing that then using practice questions later on

Thanks for you response. I'm just worried that flashcards aren't worth all the time. They are very time consuming to make and I'm worried I should be doing more/something else. I have my baseline assessments in 2 weeks and I want to make the most of my time.

I made all of mine online which took a lot less time to make - they were definitely worth the time for me, especially if they are made soon after content is covered in lessons (it's easier to start now than to go on later and have loads of revision materials to make)

For chem and bio I really liked doing exam qs. Especially because bio mark scheme is sooo specific.
Also for chemistry questions are so repetitive just changed the numbers and elements etc.

Lots of people who get As/A*s tend to do an hour a day for each subject, for chem I use pre-made notes from chemrevise I do ocr A I think they do other exam boards too.
Accesstuition and pmt for exam qs by topic

So would you say it's not worth making my own flashcards/notes and I should use premade ones? Also, with exams questions, when should I start doing them? Thank you for replying btw

Honestly, I think it's a good idea to make them yourself. That way you can make sure that the flashcards and notes are about what you feel you're less comfortable with. Also when you make them yourself, they tend to be a bit easier to remember (or atleast they are for me). I doubt it makes too much difference which you do though, as long as you can stick to doing them consistently.

I'm just not very good at making my own resources because I always end up writing too much or too little and I'm worried about not covering everything I need. It also takes me a while and I feel like my time is better spent actually learning the content by watching a video instead of writing notes. Thanks for your response btw

HI
I'm in the same situation as you are, so if anyone could help me out?
I'm doing Physics, biology and geography.
Geography I can manage with revision guides and my teacher provides enough homework to keep me going, revision guides (practice questions) and Seneca, for Physics I'm planning to use Uplearn all the way through along with revision guides, practice qs, and Seneca. Biology, I have no clue except revision guide (I have only been doing homework so far).

My question is could you help me out with time management, my homeworks are really really long and I have no time to take in consider of extra work and my school has extra work and to go above and beyond and those stuff... so please help me out... can you like help me out with some good revision tips for each subject?

Thanks

I would try planning out revision and homework using something like Google calendar. For biology I found making my own flashcards online (using StudySmarter) was best for me. I also did geography and also found making flashcards helpful. I would say that in the beginning it would be beneficial to overestimate how long things will take so that you have some wiggle room if things do go wrong.

Making your own def has more advantages as you're writing the cards down whether digitally or on paper, writing the content probably makes you remember it a bit better. I recommend making your own, for me it's just personal preference to use pre-made. if I really have to make my own flashcards for more subjects with an uncommon exam board ill use Anki to make digital flashcards its so much easier. Also I never really used flashcards in y12 so its hard for me to catch up with writing my own flashcards for all of y12 bio and them content but doing digital flashcards after my lessons on topics ive covered in lesson is a great way of keeping up with writing my own flashcards which is something I'm doing now for y13 content. I wish I did that in y12. Im a bit lazy and already struggle with writing for prolonged periods of time so I usually only write when doing exam qs/papers or notes on really difficult topics. I recommend exam questions after you finish covering a topic or module/unit, do them regularly maybe try a few in your free periods after covering a topic in lesson. access tuition do exam questions by topic for biology I think chemistry swell not too sure. pmt does them for both aswell.
for sociology definitely do exam questions, as I understand there are long answer questions in those papers such as essay questions. I do psychology which is similar but we don't have really long essay questions for me I think the largest one is 15 marks. its important to learn timing so do a few long answer questions a week or sections of an exam paper/exam questions by topic. ask your teacher to mark them, as you practice them more you'll learn to write quicker in small amount of time and with good technique which is great for mocks and the real a levels. Im not sure what websites do sociology questions so it might be worth finding past papers and specifically picking out questions you know you can do because you've covered the content.

Thanks so much for your reply, I'm a long way through, and I didn't do well in Biology, so I was asked to drop it, and I'm happy about it because Biology had really hard memorisation, and I didn't like it, so I chose Engineering, although its maths, I could manage it by doing a lot of practice qs, and I have only had one lesson so far, so let's see how it goes.
And Physics, I'm still doing uplearn, but hasn't done a lot of it, and I have been on and off it so far, and during this half term, I'm going to get a lot of work done.
