Physiotherapy University of Essex!!

Hi! I’m going to apply for physiotherapy at the university of Essex starting in September 2025 and I wanted to have some more information about the course structure. How is it divided between theoretical lectures and practical classes? how many hours would I have of both? And do you cover the three main areas of the physiotherapy profession so musculoskeletal, cardio respiratory and neurological area? Lastly I wanted to ask you how the clinical placement were structured.
Thank you so much!

Hi Sara Turri!

It's great to hear that you are considering applying for our BSc Physiotherapy course at Essex!😃

I've answered your questions below👇️
How is it divided between theoretical lectures and practical classes? how many hours would I have of both?
Undergraduate students in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences typically attend a one-hour lecture and a one-hour seminar for each module every week, though, in vocational programmes such as Physiotherapy, the focus is placed on practical sessions. It might be a good idea to also attend one of our Open Days | University of Essex ahead of applying with us where you will have the opportunity to ask our Physiotherapy academics how much time you will spend in both.
And do you cover the three main areas of the physiotherapy profession so musculoskeletal, cardio respiratory and neurological area?
If you scroll down to the course structure section on BSc Physiotherapy - Physiotherapy Degree webpage you will be able to learn more about the exact modules/topics of study across all 3 years of the undergraduate degree at Essex.
Lastly I wanted to ask you how the clinical placement were structured.
Practice based placements are organised by our placement team and each student is timetabled to complete approximately 1,000 hours of practice-based learning. During placements, you'll work with qualified physiotherapists and other professionals to consolidate learning, gain new experiences and develop and refine your abilities. Learning on placement is achieved through interactive experiences and practice educators facilitating personal and professional growth within a variety of settings. You will have the opportunity to explore a variety of different placement settings across the 3 years and you can see how placement is structured here.

I hope this is helpful😊

Best of luck💫
