Evidence for ADHD - DSA

Hello, I submitted a summary report evidencing my adhd to the dsa and they said this wasn't acceptable. I've spoke to my GP who said they can write a headed letter detailing my diagnosis/condition and the fact that it's long term and requires medication and Fill in the evidence form the DSA have sent me. Would this be sufficient? I don't really know what else I'm expected to do, they mentioned a full diagnostic report but I work 2 jobs, have a young family and I'm doing a degree so not sure where I'd find the time. Not to mention the waiting lists for anything to do with adhd and neurodiversity are currently many months or years. I can't even get a medication review without waiting months and months at the moment.

What evidence would they actually accept? I can't afford a diagnostic report nor would I know where to start, is it even worth it given I don't really expect they can do anything valuable for adhd anyway?

Thanks

I would guess you will need an actual diagnosis of ADHD as it does not sound like you have one at the moment. A GP letter may help but id be very surprised if it was accepted as they cant formally diagnose ADHD and this requires specialist professionals.

Who diagnosed you then? It wasnt clear in your blurb as you indicated you didnt have the time to get a "full diagnostic report". This is normally something that you get automatically after seeing a qualified professional.

I was diagnosed twice by two seperate psychiatrists many years ago. If you can't advise on the question its fine. I assumed anybody who's been through the process of obtaining DSA for adhd would understand the point. The diagnostic report is to assess exactly what needs I have, however it should be clear from the diagnosis of adhd so I'm not really sure why they need it and apparently it's been claimed they will take a doctors letter.

I'll just send it and see what happens.

Okay again this wasnt clear in your blurb. My experience of DSA claims is via writing diagnostic reports for my clients, as this is something i diagnose daily. Have those psychiatrists also sent in evidence?

ADHD does not have a uniform pattern of difficulties, so the actual diagnosis is not very explanatory in terms of functional impact. I am guessing this is why you might have been requested to provide additional information.

Hi,
I receive DSA for my ADHD. When I submitted my evidence, I submitted a letter that had my diagnosis written on, which was written and signed by a doctor on headed paper. You should be able to find your diagnosis written down on the NHS app. If not a summary letter from your doctor should be fine.

Hope this helps!
