Switching exam boards for A-level retake

Hi, I am looking to resit my a-levels, one of which is Maths. In sixth form I did OCR for maths, and I found it quite hard to find resources for OCR and the past papers weren't enough. I did do alright in the end, but I would like to improve my grade since I want to re-apply for medicine. i've heard of the option to switch exam boards when resitting exams and was considering switching from OCR to Edexcel as I feel like it would be more convenient for me as a private candidate as well. I would really appreciate any advice I get as I'm not sure if it would be too big of a change, even though I have used Edexcel resources before to revise for my exams.

I'd go with Edexcel as there are s many free resources.

Make sure you can find an exam centre near you.

Thank you so much, the links are very helpful! Yes, I already have found an exam centre who were the ones that actually told me of the choice of switching exam boards, and it seems that switching to Edexcel may be the best choice for me. Thank you again!

yeah im an ocr student and they also just have a habit of throwing in the most jarring questions possible more so than other exam boards, the edexcel as papers i did for revision felt so much better lol so i'd also reccomend switching and like the above post, most of the revision material online is geared towards edexcel. Mr Bicen on youtube has sooo many videos and is really helpful, worth checking out

yess I agree the only 'advantage' I found for OCR was the lower grade boundaries but that's only cos they have the most horrible questions in their papers loll but thank you so much for ur advice as well!

Having done Edexcel A-Level maths this year here's what I recommend in terms of resources:
YouTube:
BicenMaths -> He has a very useful google document which you can access from his YouTube profile.
TLMaths
Websites:
Yorkshire maths tutor
PMT
A Level maths revision
Isaac Physics
Exam solutions

I love TLMaths his videos as so helpful, thank you for letting me know about all of these resources! Also how did you find your papers went? I feel like OCR did us so dirty especially for mechanics lol

I would not recommend all of those - bicen yes but past papers are on many websites.

That's sad to hear. I felt that this year's papers were relatively easy although paper 1 I found slightly harder than the other 2. Unfortunately, the grade boundaries were quite high this year. I'm not sure if it was the highest they've ever been for Edexcel maths (new spec) but 251/300 was an A*. After all, the grade boundaries are a reflection of how this year's exam went which is evidently fair and easy.

I'm not sure if this would be of interest to you but here are a few links to some conversations I shared with others about how I revised for maths (if you need some guidance).

Oh okay I see, to be honest the grade boundaries for OCR went slightly higher as well which was kind of expected but it would have been different for everyone. I'll check out the conversations you have linked, thank you for your help!

What do you think prevented you from getting your target grades the first time round?

What do you think prevented you from getting your target grades the first time round?

I'd say it was a mix of not understanding the content properly and also procrastination if we're being honest. Last year I received rejections for my university choices so I'd say that brought down my confidence a lot. And overall although I do accept it was my fault in not managing time properly and putting everything to the last minute, my teachers weren't exactly the greatest either when it came to revision itself, so I didn't fully grasp exam techniques and effective strategies. This time round however, I have started studying from a much earlier point and having recieved better outcomes in my uni application I'm able to say that I have improved slightly, but of course there's still a long way to go and I'll only know if my methods were effective on results day. I hope that helps!
