History PGCE funding?

Hi, I was wondering about how people get funding for their teacher training?
For context, I completed an Ancient History BA with an upper 2:1 in 2022, and now I'm looking at options to become a history teacher in secondary schools.
According to a friend currently doing an English PGCE, she said that it's too much work to work part-time (like I did at undergrad) and it's not an option, however as she is an English student she recieves a bursary on top of her student loan to help her studies - which history isnt eligible for as it's not in demand.
So I was wondering if anyone else could share information on how their course was funded/is planning to fund it because I'm not sure if I can even get a maintenance loan to cover my studies. Thanks )

Hi,

You should be eligible for student finance. Sometimes universities offer alumni discount for postgraduate courses. I was able to get 50 percent of my masters, as I got a first in my undergraduate degree. Maybe have a look into this, to see if this is a option for you.

Teacher training funding - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Funding: initial teacher training (ITT), academic year 2024 to 2025 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Master's Loan: Eligibility - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If you make a post in the following forum, you will get a response from an offical SFE rep regarding your eligibility for funding:
