What is the most affordable way to travel as a student in London?

I am looking to maybe apply for an Oyster card as I will be doing a lot of travelling in London. What is the cheapest option, I’ve been told that maybe paying as I go may be cheaper.

Hi @pinkapples24

I have a student Oyster card that you can use for pay as you go. I think this is the cheapest option as you save 30% on travelcards and bus and tram season passes.

You may also want to consider a railcard depending on whereabouts you will be living in London as many places you can just get a tube or bus. With the railcard you get 30% of train tickets and I think you can connect it to your Oyster card which will then save you 1/3 on pay as you go.

You can have a look through all the information here 18+ Student Oyster photocard - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

When traveling around London I would say buses are the cheapest way to travel, although they do take longer than the tube.

I hope this helps
