What range of activities should I expect to see during my Freshers Week? Will it be on campus?
Hiya!
Freshers Week, also known as Welcome Week is where the university puts on a range of different events and activities and this is to help new students get to know the university better and a chance to socialise and meet people
As a university student, you'll have plenty of events to attend, each offering something different based on your university and its location. These events can vary widely in timing—some may take place during the day, others in the evening. While some events are free, others may require you to purchase a ticket / wristband. The variety of events you'll encounter is vast. You might find yourself at a party or a club night one day, enjoying a movie night the next or participating in themed events or city exploration tours. Additionally, most universities host a welcome fair, as well as societies and sports fairs. Most of these events will be based on campus, at your Student Union but there may be some at a local bar / club within walking distance or there may even be transport provided.
To find out what Fresher events are happening, I would recommend checking your university’s Student Union website and their social media!

As others have said, there will be a wide range of activities on during freshers week and you can often find out what these will be for your specific university if you look online, or sometimes you will get an email which shows you a timetable of what is going to be on during freshers/welcome week.
Usually, there will be lots of different events for welcome week. There will usually be a societies fair, sports fair, freebie fairs and volunteering fairs. This differs from uni to uni but usually you can expect to see some of these at your university. These are good to go to as you get to see what is going to be on at your uni during the next year or so and you can also sign up to some societies and things like this.
The student union might also put some other events on too such as tours of the city or tours of the uni buildings if you feel you don't know your way around different places. They might also have some events where you can meet people too so have a look if your uni is putting ay events on like this.
There will also likely be some events on for your course. You should get a course induction timetable or a list of things that are on and whether they are compulsory or optional to attend. These are usually quite helpful and also allows you to meet some of the people who are going to be on your course which I found helpful as I was nervous about starting my course but I went to an event in welcome week and met some of my course mates which really helped to ease my worries!
There will also be lots of events on at night and lots of club nights/nights out that people will be attending. If you like going out, these are fun and you get to meet a lot of new people here and also spend some time with your new flatmates. There will be a lot of different things on so don't feel like you have to go to everything or go out every night - just do what you want to do as there will be lots of other opportunities to make friends at other times too if this isn't really your thing.

Hi! Most events do take place on campus however, it will be clearly signposted if not. I can only speak from my own experience of freshers events but there were activities such as; a vintage sale, a petting zoo, freshers fair, a ball, nights out etc. All this to say there will likely be a very wide range of activities and so there is something for everyone. Hope this helps! Faye 🙂
