Teacher References - Do they matter unless its regarding extenuating circumstances?

I recently got to see what my teacher's reference was for me and it included that I ranked first in History and English in my year, so I was just wondering if this matters much since I've heard teacher references aren't that impactful.

Of course, I am asking because I would like to know if rankings such as mine will make my application stronger, or if it is a part of the application often looked over.

Any advice or comments appreciated

It would depend on the uni, but an overwhelming majority will look at this part of the application (I mean, why wouldn't they?).

It could help your case, but I'd like to think it also just helps selectors have a better idea about you.
