Anyone studying Creative Computing at Southampton in September 2024????

Hi all,

I applied through clearing to a course at the University of Southampton (Creative Computing) as I decided I was no longer interested in pursuing a non-specialised CS degree. I was attracted to Southampton's prestige as a university and membership in the Russell Group. However, the course itself seems to be largely shrouded in enigma.

As far as I am aware, this year is the first year the course is being offered, thus, the information I can gather about it is severely limited which has started to concern me slightly.

I have managed to track down a whopping 2 other people due to be on this course with me and - lo and behold - they too share my concerns.

If anyone else is studying this course, please get in touch with me

Thanks!
Hi @Oxygen Breather ,

I'm sorry you have these concerns, I'll do my best to help.

Yes creative computing is a new course, so unfortunately there hasn't been a lot published online. The course may be new but I can assure you that the lecture team teaching the course are very experienced and the course wouldn't be run otherwise. There is the course page for creative computing which I'm sure you've found already. As you'll be based in Winchester School of Arts, I'd recommend going to the freshers events in Winchester campus, hopefully you can meet some people there!

Have you joined the Electronics and Computer Science Discord? I appreciate that the majority of the department is based in Highfield, not Winchester, but you might be able to find some more people on there. Here's a link to the discord, and their website too.

If you don't manage to find anyone, try not to worry too much. You'll meet everyone when you have your introduction and welcome lectures where everyone will be in the same boat trying to find their course mates and friends!

If you have concerns about your course, you will soon meet your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), who will be more than happy to help you with anything course related!

Hope this helps,
