Laptops

I wanna buy a new laptop from apple but i’m torn between getting a macbook or getting an ipad with a keyboard & apple pen. I just need advice on what’s better as i’ve heard mixed opinions from non uni students
I just posted regarding selling an extra Macbook I received for pretty cheap, it's new and listed on eBay so you'd get buyer protection and all that. DM me if you're interested!

hey! I currently use both and from my experience using a macbook was better as for most of my work as I found it to be more powerful as well as more functional (especially for using Microsoft office apps etc.). Also the battery on my Mac lasts much longer than the iPad, mine typically lasts me a whole day and a half of working without having to charge it. However having the ability to take handwritten notes with an apple pencil on an iPad is also so useful, so I think what it really comes down to is what you'd prefer to have and how you'll need to use your device for your course (for example, personally I usually prefer to use my mac, however I took chemistry last year and being able to draw out molecules straight onto my notes with the Apple Pencil was really helpful + it also makes online annotations so much easier)
I am a uni lecturer and most of my students turn up to my classes with laptops. About 20% can afford an Apple but most have HP, or Acer or Lenovo laptops. Being able to write notes directly onto the powerpoints the teacher provides is certainly an advantage.
kind of off topic but omg last year i saw a guy with the lenovo legion laptop and it was so damn pretty. most gorgeous laptop ive ever seen and i couldn't stop thinking about it since. I'm not even a computers typa girl but oh what i would do for a laptop that quiet and pretty....

I would recommend a laptop over a tablet/ipad. I have found writing assignments on laptops so much easier than on a tablet device. Laptops are also able to run certain software's, that ipads/tablets can't. Ipad's are fine for note taking but other than that, laptops will be a better option.

Not many students have MacBook's, and have acer, hp, leveno etc instead. As they are much cheaper and can sometimes be better in general. I have had a acer laptop since my first year and it has been fine for doing all my note taking and assignments

Hope this helps,

Hi @macieackroydx,

I recommend getting a laptop/ MacBook. You need to make sure your device has a good battery life as you may not always have access to a port to put your charger in. Additionally, your device needs to be powerful enough to have multiple tabs open. Normally I have a tab open with my lecturers slides, my own work, additional readings and a tab for searching anything.

Personally I've never used a MacBook, I have an Acer laptop, however I have heard very good things about Macbooks! I would also recommend looking at some of the laptops suggested by the other responses on here, especially the Ace. I have had my Acer for 3 years and have had no issues!

I hope this advice helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
