Gap year

I applied to a uni through clearing as i wasn’t looking to wanting to take a gap year, and it was a decision i had to make within 48hrs if i wanted to go uni. However after having weeks to think about it now, I’ve realised taking a gap year is much more beneficial for me. I’ve not paid any tuition fees (9250£) to the uni yet and i have only paid my first instalment for my rent, in which i haven’t moved into at all. I know with SFE i am able to get it for the duration of my course + 1year I’m now thinking to take a gap year, how would this work out financially?

If you have not paid any tuition fee to the university then you have not used any tuition loan funding. Once the university has withdrawn you from the course, your maintenance loan will also drop. However with SFE applications, it does not affect your maintenance loan. You can apply for as many years and for each year you will receive maintenance loan but any tuition fee taken will affect your overall allowance. For tuition fee you are allowed an allowance of:
(years of duration of course) + 1 gift year.
If you have paid your first rent instalment, you should let your landlord know you are no longer going to university, usually student accommodation providers would refund the payment back or drop the instalment if they know you are no longer in university.
