Is 25 mins (Approx) a good commuting time?

I haven't started at university but the one I chose is relatively close to home and it turns out it's about 25 minutes by car and I'm not sure I can afford the accommodation prices close to school. Is that a good commuting time and how long do I have to keep that up before I eventually get accommodation that's much closer?

25 mins is fine. Most students rent privately after their first year, you can start looking into that whenever you want.

Hi,

Yeah this is absolutely reasonable if you ask me. As said above, most people tend to move off campus for second year and above and this tends to lead to 15-40min travel times for most students so you wont feel alone in at (at least after first year, but even then others will be commuting too).

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please feel free to ask!

Hi @yasinsaadu ,

I agree with what others have said here that 25 minutes is a pretty normal time for students to be commuting and you will find that quite a few people commute longer than this. Even some people who end up getting student houses in second and third year might have a 20/25 minute bus into uni, depending where they live and what university they go to so it's really not long at all.

The only thing I would say is to just make sure you have a look into the parking at your uni or where you can park your car just to make sure there are places you can park, or this could add quite a bit of time onto the commute if you are parking further away and walking.

As others have said, you could always look into getting a student house in your second year which tend to be a bit cheaper than living in university halls.

I hope this helps!

Very reasonable. That said if you're driving in, parking may be a challenge - usually there is very limited parking on uni campuses and undergraduate students rarely have priority for it over staff and postgraduate students (unless they have accessibility needs that necessitate parking on site).

Hey,

Yep - that's a great time. That is the same time it took me as a student when I drove into university. Just make sure you leave enough time to find a parking spot!

Hi!
I would say that is a good amount of time for a commute. You have the option to get accommodation each year however, there is no requirement to. If you find that commuting works well for you then stick with it.
Hope this helps, Faye 🙂
