Work experience or Volunteering in Manchester

hi all, i am looking for medical based work experience and volunteering opportunities in manchester as i am planning on doing medicine in the future. i have tried all the basic stuff such as emailing GPs or calling them in for work experience, emailing hospitals and applying for volunteering at mft. none of the have actually worked out. does anyone know any places that offer any of the work experience or allows volunteering for college students?. please let me know their names so that i can apply/ask them regarding it. or anyother things in manchester that would be beneficial for someone applying for medicine. thank you so much

Try stepping hill if you live in Stockport for work experience. The Christie also does some I think. For volunteering you can ask any care home or stepping hill offers some. I really struggled to get any but managed to get two weeks in a hospital as I sent a really desperate email saying nowhere else would give me work experience. And I would say the best way to get into a GP surgery is to use connections e.g parents friends. You can also do work experience at a pharmacy that is still valuable.

Tameside hospital but usually you need a family contact there. They gave me work experience even though I don't as I was so desperate in y12 summer.

Yh my relatives work at a hospital i ll try if i can find some there. Thank you very much and good luck!!
Instead of getting frustrated that you can't get the sort of opportunities you think are 'best', try looking at this from a different angle and think 'what can I get that is still relevant'. Try contacting 'Friends of ......' at your local hospital. My daughter got a regular tea-trolley slot on a surgical ward - it might sound like a waste of time but it wasn't and she learnt heaps about the reality of medical work. Also - phone local care-homes and special schools and ask about volunteering - its all relevant 'caring' experience. And try Pharmacies - again, it would give you 'NHS' insight and relevant 'how to deal with people' experience.
