A masters degree in medicine requirements.

Does anyone know if it is possible for someone to do a undergraduate bachelors degree in forensic psychology and then do a medicine masters to later become a forensic psychiatrist.

Or would i have needed to study a bachelors in medicine to be a psychiatrist?

Please help I would love to know.

To do a master's degree in medicine or an M.D in the UK (M.D. in the UK is a postgraduate research degree) you need to be a doctor (complete a MBBS or M.D or DO in Europe or US).

What you can do is complete your forensic psychology degree (3 years) and then apply for the Post-graduate Medicine (4 years) to become a doctor, then undergoing speciality/residency training in psychiatry.

OR

Complete an MBBS first (5 years) and then complete an MSc in Forensic Psychology (1 to 2 years, depending on time commitment) WHILE doing your undergoing speciality/residency training in psychiatry - as this could save you some time.

That's not how it works. There isn't a "masters degree in medicine" which qualifies you as a doctor, regardless of your prior qualifications.

You need to do a primary medical qualification (PMQ) which in the UK is the MBBS/MBChB/BM/BMBS etc, which is an undergraduate degree. This may be a 5 or 6 year standard entry undergraduate medicine course, or a 4 year accelerated graduate entry medicine course.

Note also that you won't be specialising in psychiatry until at least after completing the entire medical degree covering the whole of medicine, and the foundation programme where you will work across the range of medicine for two years. You then won't specialise in forensic psychiatry for I believe another 2 or 3 years after that.

If your aim is to become a doctor (of whatever variety) you should just aim to go into a medical degree at the outset.
