I was accepted as an external into Pates this year. I haven’t heard of anyone not receiving an offer with 69 or higher predicted. 68 seemed to be enough for most people, though I’d say 69 would be enough to be quite confident in receiving an offer. What’s required does change year by year so definitely work hard in mocks and lessons to put yourself in the best position

Did you get that 69 points in your predicted grades?

I applied with 72, but 69 would be enough

Wow. What grades did you get in your mocks for those predicted grades?

Managed to get 9s for all, but realistically that’s not necessary to get in

Hi I'm hoping to join pate's sixth form as an external for 2025 entry and I just had some questions that I would be really grateful if you could answer. 1. How long after you applied did you get your offer? 2. Do you have to get the same results that you applied with in your actual exams to get in? 3. Did you end up getting all 9s? 4. Do you know if they look outside of the top8 if say there are too many people with the same results? 5. what were your backup schools after Pate's? Thank you so much

1.

Doesn't matter. Probably a few months, can't remember exactly

2.

No. Once you get an offer you only have to get above the stated 56 and get the grades relevant to the subjects you are applying for

3.

.

4.

No. They will just increase the top 8 requirement if there is unexpected competition but are unlikely to look at anything else aside from your predicted grades

That would be a scrape. I would suggest 70+ to be safe as an external

Your predicted grades are the ones that matter, not the grades you achieved in your mocks (although I would presume they are similar). To have a strong chance at getting in, your predicted top 8 must be strictly >67, the higher the better.

As for the second part of your post, yes. If it turns out that you don't get a conditional but end up doing really well in your actual GCSEs, you can call them on results day and ask if they have space for you. I know at least one person who got in this way. That being said, this is by no means a done deal, as it may be the case that they just don't have any space left in spite of your excellent grades. Getting a conditional offer should be your top priority if you want to come to Pate's.

Good luck with your application.

yes my predicted grades would be similsr but since i was so close to the grades above me most my teachers will put my predicted a grade above so i will have 5 9's and 4 8's which is more than 67 (its 69- top 8 ) so yh thanks for answering btw

Just a bit confused does that mean you will apply with your mock grades or the better ones your teacher predicted you? Does Pate's check?? i have my mocks in January but worried that I might do terrible and would rather just apply with my current predicted grades (10 9's and 1 8). Can I do that? Also your grades are so good!! would really appreciate anyone who replies. Thanks x

See my previous message. They check your predicted grades not your mock grades. And yes, they definitely do check your predicted grades. You are free to apply now if you feel like doing so gives you a better chance, assuming applications have opened.
