A levels - Anyone Took Maths with Further Maths can advise me?

Just started Y12, taking A level maths, further maths, physics and geography.

My maths teacher asked me to stay behind after class this morning. She suggested I focus on my other A levels as the stuff she covering in maths right now is taught in greater depth and more complex in my FM classes.

I think it was cos I understood what she was teaching in that lesson already, and kept answering first (you don't have to put your hand up). For those taking both maths & FM does her advice sound right or was it just a nice way of telling me to shut it?

The thing is, I really need to get A* in maths cos it's my best subject (I'll probs be fighting for my life in geography), and I need a top grade in it to help my apprenticeship applications - I'm worried she's pitching it to the midstream kids, who are probably great at everything else.

I don't really know what I can do or if I should say anything?

I'm currently doing Maths and Further Maths in Year 13, and I'm not sure why your teacher would say that? You should still keep doing Maths lessons because there's plenty of stuff that doesn't come up in FM, but when you're revising you might be able to cut some topics out from your Single Maths revision if they also crop up in FM. Even if you're understanding the lesson well, it's always good practice to keep answering questions anyway.

If you need an A* in Maths then you should definitely go for it, and also remember that you can get lots of your Geography marks from the NEA (assuming your exam board does one?) so you don't have to get top marks in the actual exams, giving you time to focus on your Maths revision.

Thank you! She still meant turn up for lessons, I think she may have just meant not be be concerned if it seems easy and if I get something she's teaching straight away, use the time on my other A levels.

I'm going to chat with her today about making sure she's still pitching the lesson at a standard where it's possible to get an A*/A though. It's no good for me if she only doing enough to get the class to a C or B because this one subject is my safest bet for a top grade.

Thank you for reminding me about NEA to - that will take the pressure of a bit for Geography.
