Predicted grades for architecture UAL and UCL

Hi everyone,

I got my predicted grades for A level and unfortunately, it is not what I wanted. I received a ABC

An A in English literature, B in history and C in art. However because I want to do architecture the C I received is giving me slim hope of getting into a good uni in London for architecture.

Do you think I can still apply to UAL and get in? What about UCL or is that reaching?

What are the entry requirements for both institutions?

AAB for both but I think UCL would be stricter with it

Unless you meet requirements for lower contextual offers / have mitigating circumstances that can be put in the UCAS reference, then chances are you're going to get flat rejections from both. I would seriously advise applying to courses that you are actually eligible for.

My sister got an offer at Royal Holloway with the grades wanted being AAB but was accepted with BBB. Surely personal statement plays a role?

Which course and was there a contextual offer or mitigating circumstances? Or was this in clearing?

It really isn't usually at all for a uni to accept a candidate two grades below their entry requirements without:
a) A contextual offer scheme
b) Mitigating circumstances declared in the reference
c) It being clearing

No she applied through UCAS normally with no mitigating circumstances or contextual offer and did not go through clearing? It was for marketing

Ah, marketing - that'll be why. I expect you'll have a different experience with architecture but if I turn out to be wrong please do let me know. Our advice is always to apply to courses you do meet the entry requirements for, if you want to take a risk on 1 choice out of 5 it's probably worth doing, but definitely have some safer choices on the application too.

hi we’re in similar positions- i achieved abc and also want to take architecture! i think for ual our grades might have a slim chance? the lowest grades they’ve accepted is bcc, so i’m assuming that personal statement alongside with portfolio can boost your application.

for ucl, i think it will be a reach…

if you are eligible for the contextual offer i would say to go for it, especially since they lowered the requirements to bcc this year, however if you are not i don’t think that’s a risk to take.

if you haven’t thought about it already i think kingston might be a good london uni to apply to? although they require abb / 128 tariff they commonly accept grades at ccc, which implies that it weighs more with the personal statement and portfolio than the grades.
