Acces to he for optom

Hi so I start my access to HE in science this September and I am interested in doing optometry my only concern is would the access course prepare me for first year optometry? Or would a foundation yr suit me better? I also wanted to ask if anybody who has completed optometry could give me some information on how they found it and how hard it is as I am afraid of not doing well.

Evening, not sure on how helpful I can be, but I have completed the HE science acsess course and have entered my first year of pharmacology this September. There was a unit in the course where they concentrate on convex and converging lenses and calculating focal point and vision distance this unit was very phycis and maths base I belive if you are comfortable with those subjects you will be fine going into your first year. Ultimately anything is possible as long as your willing to work hard. Upon completion of the access course should give you confidence in your academic abilities and I don't see while it wouldn't be possible. Good luck

Ahhh I see well it be a good experience more of a similar setting to what university will be like. I would choose your top 5 university make sure you hit the entry requirements with your gcse and HE course and all the best it definitely possible.

Hey ive just started my first year of Otpom degree after having done an Access qualification. If im being honest, it does not set you up to study optometry whatsoever, however, I studied and Access to HE science and maths course which i found very demanding and difficult. University is feeling a similar level of difficulty at the minute, as long as you focus on your studies when you come into first year, don't get sidetracked and put the work in, you will do just fine. Optometry is not an easy course, and not having any physics knowledge makes it a little more confusing because the basic concepts you are expected to know you will have to wrap your head around at the same time as the more difficult ones.
I got 42 at D and 3 at M in my access course for reference.

I hope this doesnt scare you but moreso encourages you, I love my course and im so glad ive came to do it.

Wishing you the best in your studies this year.
