Does Queens university belfast do a bcs in computer science ?

Hi, I know what you're thinking: "this can be answered with a simple google search" well I've looked on ucas and QUB's website and for computer science (BCS) there are two degree options (unless I'm being stupid): Comp sci with year in industry or Comp sci with mathematics. I only want to do a 3-year long program in cs so the year in industry doesn't interest me and the comp sci with mathematics is essentially just a maths degree with a bit of programming from my pov. I'm very confused because why would they offer a bcs in computer science with a year in industry but not computer science by itself ? Am I missing something ?

Do the year in industry. Employers are not that interested in maths if their product is not maths based but that year in industry will make you. It will also give you a flavour about whether you are going in the right direction or not. Honestly - year in industry is worth more than a degree in itself. Students are not taught that employers don't care that much for qualifications. They do put a huge emphasis on skills and knowledge that comes with experience. Things like maths can be learned as and when is needed.

If you want to do a three-year Computer Science degree at QUB, then you're out of luck. As your research has concluded, they don't offer such a degree.

Have you considered their three-year Computer Engineering (BEng) degree?

Also, many Computer Science graduates struggle to find work after graduating, as they don't have the relevant experience which employers are looking for. (You'll find many stories here on TSR of CS graduates trying to work out how to gain the required experience.) So perhaps you shouldn't dismiss the Computer Science Professional Experience BSc option so casually?

I think you'll find that most comp sci degrees include a year in industry as part of them. That said, last year was a bit of a disaster in terms of getting those placements and almost everyone couldn't get one in my son's uni (2 out of a class of 150).

I went to Queen's myself and, whilst most did the placement year, not everyone was able to i.e. although it says it includes a year in industry, not everyone does that.
