Failed 2nd year resits

I am currently in second year uni and my second hasn’t gone to plan I had failed 5 modules out of 8 due to some health problems and when my resits came around I sat the first 3 exams of which I passed 2 (capped at 40%) and my other 2 resits I couldn’t attend as I fell very ill . I am now required to “”resit out of attendance “” which is basically to take the year out just to do the exams then continue. I read on the Qmul that you are allowed to appeal your unis decision (Qmul) as I would rather graduate late next year to do my 2resits next year and continue on to my final year ? Is there anyway the university would let me continue. Or is it better for me to just retake the whole year as I averaged around 40% in my second year which would impact my overall grade . I need some advice also universités start opening up very soon (next week) so would I even have time to appeal or request to retake the year ? Or is there anyway I can carry on my resit exam to either my Semester A /B exams of next year ?

I'm not sure that appealing this decision would be a sensible option. Have you read QMUL's Appeal Policy 2023-24? It states that:

"9. A student may appeal on one or both of these grounds:
i. ‘Procedural error’. The process leading to the decision being appealed against was not conducted in accordance with Queen Mary’s procedure, such that there is reasonable doubt as to whether the outcome might have been different had the error not occurred. Procedural error includes administrative error, and bias in the operation of the procedure.
ii. ‘Exceptional circumstances’. Exceptional circumstances, illness, or other relevant factors were not made known for good reason, or were not properly taken into account."

Would you be appealing on the grounds of a procedural error? What procedural error has occurred? Or would you be appealing on the basis that the university was not aware of your health issues (and so had not taken them into account), and that you had not made them aware of your health issues "for good reason"?

Note that you can't just appeal on the basis that you don't like the decision. You need to prove that the decision is flawed in some way.

Given that you "averaged around 40% in my second year" which, as you say, will impact your final degree classification, it seems more sensible to take some time to get healthy, and to retake the exams next year instead.

Did you health issues impact your ability to learn and to study? Or was it only your exams which were impacted? Your average mark would suggest that having some time to enhance what you learned during the year might be of benefit to you. Do you not agree?
