Making friends at Uni.

Hi all, I'm supposed to be starting my foundation year at NTU in a few days.

During secondary school, I had a few friends but had none at sixth form. I'm not that social but I'm polite to people and usually they're polite back.

Is it hard to make friends when you're at uni? I'm planning on trying to connect with people on my course and join societies and stuff. I won't need to meet flatmates since I'm living with family.

Hi there! It seems like your plans for making friends are already great! I personally found it a bit harder to connect with people on my course but once I joined a society it was a lot easier I made quite a few great friends, maybe because it feels more relaxed outside of lectures.
It’s also completely normal not to make friends straight away; it usually takes a bit of time before you find people you can become really close to.
Good luck!

Hi,

It's great to hear that you are considering joining societies, I truly believe that they are the best way to make friends at uni as societies contain loads of different people all with similar interests.

I think this is one of the easiest and best ways to make friends and meet new people at university.

I hope this helps,

Matt

Hi there,

It's great to see that you've already found someone to talk to in the replies.

Personally, making friends at university was a lot easier for me than sixth form. Most people will be very open and receptive to new people, as they are in the same boat as you. If you're planning on connecting with people on your course and wanting to join societies, those are already great places to meet others. I'd also recommend looking into part-time work, volunteering, and other clubs within your local area.

Do remember that making friends can time time, too. You might not find people you really click with right away, but don't let that dishearten you. Study hard, find out what you like doing, and enjoy yourself.

Best of luck!
