Flexible and exciting part-time role at uni - join student ambassador team

Hey there 😁

I’m Julia, and I’ve been a student ambassador for the past two years. I’m sharing my experience because, like many of you, I had no idea how easy it could be to find a rewarding part-time job while studying 🤔

In my first year, I worked at Taco Bell - long weekend shifts, a hectic environment, and not the best pay. Then, at the start of my second year, I stumbled upon an email from my university about applying for the student ambassador team. The role involved helping with Open Days, Campus Tours, School Visits, Student Talks, Fairs, and sharing my university experience on platforms like TSR. It sounded creative, interesting, and, most importantly, flexible.

AND IT REALLY IS! 🥳 My two years as an ambassador have been a great experience. The variety of events and students I work with keep the role exciting, and the flexibility allows me to fit it around my studies. Plus, I’ve gained so many transferable skills that have boosted my CV. Another perk? I live in student halls right on campus, so no commuting!

Keep an eye on your student emails and explore your university’s website - you don’t want to miss this opportunity!

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

Out of curiosity, do you generally need to have previous work experience to be a student ambassador (as you mentioned previously working in Taco Bell), or is being a student ambassador open to anyone even if they've not had work experience before? Thanks in advance for answering

Hiya!

Thank you for your question! No, previous work experience is not required to become a student ambassador. All we ask is that you're a student at De Montfort University, doesn't matter if you're an Undergraduate or Postgraduate, and any course field is welcome 🙂 . While the job description highlights a few essential qualities—like effective team-working skills, being a confident communicator, having a proactive attitude, and being helpful and approachable—it’s perfectly fine if you don’t have previous work experience. As long as we can see these qualities in your initial application through the scenario-based assessment questions, as well as during the one-on-one and group interviews, you’re absolutely eligible! 😀

I hope this has helped
