Can I still apply to Oxford or LSE?

Hello all,

I currently just started y12 with Maths, economics and politics as my a level choices . My gcse grades are 88888776 (one 6 and one 8 have been sent back for remark as they were close to the next grade.) For my GCSE’s I was homeschooled and learned all the content by myself with no teacher.

I would really like to study PPE at Oxford or Finance at LSE but I am not sure if it is worth applying with my GCSE grades as well as the fact that I am not taking further maths a level. To add, outside of school, I have competed (and still do) for team GB ( I train 30 hours per week which interferes with school time) in my chosen sport numerous times and am on track to completing my grade 7 in violin by the time I apply for university.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you so much!

Business. It was sent back for a remark a couple days ago

In Sciences I got 887

In maths and English language I got 88 but English language has been sent back for a remark
PPE and Finance are VERY different degrees.

You don't need FM for PPE at Oxford.

I doubt the violin is of any relevance to either. The sport probably isn't a hugely relevant factor either. I would only mention them relatively briefly. The UK isn't like the US - most unis aren't that fussed about random extracurricular activities. They aren't typically looking for "all rounders" they're looking for people specifically interested in, dedicated to, and prepared for the specific academic course being applied to.

So as long as I do well in my a levels I should be okay? I've already found supercurriculars I'd like to apply to and do wider reading for my personal statement.

I agree. I've just started y12 and those courses are just what I'm interested in at the moment so I thought it was worth mentioning both as I am not sure yet

I don't see any reason you couldn't apply competitively if you do well in your A-levels.
