Should i try apply for oxbridge this late?

So i'm on a gap year, and while i wasn't initially applying for oxbridge, i've had a change of heart of course and i'm thinking of applying come October. Problem is i'm at square 1 and if i want to apply i think it's not even worth trying because i have nothing started. Literally nothing. But academics.

Please can someone who's experienced with Oxbridge applications give me some advice? I'm hoping oxbridge considers the admissions test more than anything else.
Which course? What's your background? How well are you doing on the admissions tests so far?

You did not provide specifics, Cambridge is different to Oxford. Please apply.

If you can unsure which to select, go for Cambridge. Consider colleges like Pembroke, Trinity Hall or Homerton.

Natural sciences. A*A*AA achieved. The admissions tests are going really well, it's just the work experience / ps side i'm lacking.

Hi i'm considering Cambridge. But both are pretty similar when it comes to the PS right? I know cambridge interviews more applicants and Oxford is more heavy on the GCSEs.

Yes, you are right but there are some salient differences in course content, teaching and assessment styles as well as the overall vibe. i suggest that you do apply. Good luck

You do not need work experience. You have to focus on curricular and super-curricular activities.

Sorry i just used work experience as an umbrella. I don't really have any super-curriculars but i am looking. I've read a few books so far

Thank you i'll take a look further. I'm just worried i wouldn't be competitive enough other than the admissions test and interview (which i will work on after submitting the PS).

No worries. You have to demonstrate a strong interest in your subject. Have a look at the internet and look for some activities.

You can never be sure. Many top candidates are rejected and many ‘normal’ applicants are accepted. It is down to your performance.
Thank you for the reassurance i will definitely consider applying!
Just to note, the application is in October, but you need to have signed up for the admissions assessment by the 16th September, TOMORROW,

I have added the information link which has the link to sign up.

You don't need work experience for an academic course like natural sciences.

You can write your PS in a day if needed, and Cambridge have indicated before it's a less important part of the application for them as they have so many other pieces of information to assess applicants on. Not worth stressing over.

So no reason not to apply.

Thank you! But then how does an applicant stand out without much experience / extra curriculars?

Doing well in the admissions test(s) and in the interview.

Ultimately they want to know you're teachable in the Oxbridge tutorial format, which is what the interview determines. They don't want to know if you are able to stand around watching someone else do work which is pretty much the only kind of work experience you will get in the scientific area.

While engaging with your subject beyond the curriculum is something they want to see, you can do that through wider reading as much as through science fairs or competitions or olympiads or whatever.

I’m going through the Oxbridge admissions process atm and my school have said that one year someone decided 2 weeks before the deadline to apply and they got in! I’ve also heard someone wrote a personal statement in a day. Obviously you don’t need to be that fast with it but if you’re willing to put in the effort then why not? It’s worth a try!
