Keeping up with A-level work and studying

I'm a week and a bit into year 12 and wow there is a lot of work, especially for biology. My subjects are Biology, Physics, Maths and AS Geology (I also have to do an epq in year 13). How best can I plan and keep organised? I've found that I fall behind with the workload as i have a lot of homework and I also want to finish notes and make flashcards each night for Bio, Phys and Geol and for maths I thought it would be a good idea to do practice questions on the topic I do that day and maybe watch a video on how to do tricky questions. I do struggle concentrating and getting work done which sucks. I should probably make a timetable for all the stuff I need to do but I'm not sure if I should do all my subjects each night or split it up.

id suggest splitting it up so reviewing all of one subjects work for that week in one go because eventually u will get in the flow of studying which makes it harder to switch between subjects, it doesnt have to be timetabled but sometimes that helps. maybe use pre-made flashcards for the other subjects since they're very time consuming to make yourself, I find pmt is fine for biology can't speak on physics or geol

Drop the AS - you only need 3 A levels.

I can’t drop it, it’s a requirement at my sixth form that we take 3 a levels and an as level

damn thats rough. honestly managing workload never gets any easier - for me i just had to get into the rhythm of doing a fair bit of my work at school.

i take bio, chem, maths and further maths - i enjoy maths and further maths, tolerate chem, and despise bio with my entire being. this means i am happy to do maths at home, dont mind doing chem, but i refuse to do any bio at home. so i force myself to do bio at school, so i dont have to think about it at home. if youre the same and have a subject you particularly dont enjoy you could think about doing the same.

i would also recommend getting into a regular after school routine, although this can be really difficult. for example my routine is:

5.30 arrive home
5.30 - 6.00 eat snack / watch tv / tiktok
6.00 - 7.00 homework / revision
7.00 - 7.30 break
7.30 - 8.30 homework / revision
8.30 - 9.30 eat dinner / watch tv
9.30 - 10.00 shower
10.00 onwards - last minute hw / revision if needed, otherwise relax

obviously play around a bit and find your own routine - eg showering first might help you switch from school mode to home mode

Doesn’t the EPQ count as an AS? It’s worth half an A-Level like AS are.

It's a very competitive grammar school that is practically like a private school. I'm not sure why they made it a requirement but I guess it's probably for reputation and to make their students academically superior or something

Yes but we have to do both, so at the end of year 13 i'll have the equivalent of 4 a levels but i'll have 5 grades on my results sheet

That’s so crazy! I go to a private school and some people are only doing 2 A-Levels. I guess they have their reasons but it seems like a lot of unnecessary pressure on students.

Yes it is, but so far we have been given lots of support and the teachers are very good compared to my old school so hopefully all goes well
