How do i go through freshers with no money

Hello. Without trying to go too much into my situation, I have basically have no money for freshers. I think I have £30 for the week before my SFE comes in, and I think most of that will have to be on transport costs. Part of me wants to just go into my overdraft for a day or 2 so it will be less stressful, but its unarranged and I'm worried I'll start racking up debt if I do so. Anyone got any tips or advice?
thats tough - you could buy some cheap drink in lidls and drink before you go out. Search for the cheapest drinks and if eating out just buy fries without anything as that pushes the cost up.
Do you have an overdraft facility?

If you do, then you can use it short term with minimal fees and likely none if it's a student account, this would be an arranged overdraft.

For an unarranged overdraft your account has to go below 0 with no overdraft facility or beyond an agreed one and you normally can't do this yourself, like if you try to withdraw money or use your card it just won't work, you wouldn't have an 'option' of an unarranged overdraft.
I’m the same bro got like £15

Hey @Crimson456

I would say that when it comes to Freshers that it would be very valuable to look for free options and opportunities that the university offers as I imagine there will be quite a lot!

Also, if you are the type of person who likes free drinks and those things I imagine that the university would also offer those to some extent.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Crimson456,

I used my overdraft at uni at certain points as it was unarranged, however I wouldn't recommend using it for everything and then not getting out of it. During freshers week, students do go out and make new friends and I get why you would consider your overdraft which you could do however just know that there are plenty of other opportunities to make friends throughout your time as a student.

If you are set on using your overdraft, maybe just get some cash out and not go anymore into it. Just keep track of it essentially. 🙂

Hope this helps and you have a great freshers!

As above, do you know the difference between an arranged and an unarranged overdraft?
