Transferring after first year

Rn I’m studying child nursing at Glasgow. I explored the city a little and i haven’t been here long. All of my flatmates are lovely girls, but i just feel like the city isn’t for me. It’s too big - doesn’t really feel homely for me.

It’s a nice city but i don’t have that feeling that i want to be here long term - and my course is four years long. I’m going to see it out for the first year but if i still feel like this after a few months would it be possible to transfer after my first year into second year? I want to transfer to Leeds uni - it’s closer to home, i just feel like i made a mistake going so far.

Contact Leeds uni and find out if the courses are compatible - will the modules you cover in Glasgow be similar to the modules covered in year 1 in Leeds? Child nursing is a professional course so the syllabus should be similar.

Thank you for your enquiry.

You can read our full policy on transfer requests on our website here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/entryrequirements/policy/#universitytransfer

As a general rule, the University does not accept applications from UK students to transfer from another institution unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Our extenuating circumstances policy can be found here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/entryrequirements/policy/#extenuatingcircumstances

All transfer requests must be made through UCAS will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applications from students currently studying at another Higher Education Institution must meet the current SQA Higher or A level entry requirements to be considered for an offer.

Please note that applications for transfers for September 2025 entry must be submitted by the UCAS deadline of January 29th 2025 - https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/dates-and-deadlines-uni-applications.

I hope this is helpful. Please contact us if you have any further queries.

Hi there,

I would say that the best thing to do would be to talk to your uni help team about this as they should have the most up to date information about whether you would be able to do this and what the terms and conditions would be for doing this. Explain to them how you are feeling and what you think your options are and they should be able to explain what you might be able to do.

You could also contact Leeds uni as they will have the information needed for whether they would be able to accept you and what their terms would be regarding this. If they say it is a possibility, you can then get all of the relevant information from them as they will be the most helpful people for this.

You could also talk to your personal tutor/academic advisor about this as they are there to help you and might be able to help with this or just give you some support with this.

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.
