in my personal statement for english lit i've been going through books i've read and how they're relevant to what i want to study, except one of the book titles is literally 15 words long. i'm over the line limit rn so i'm wondering if it's fine to abbreviate it by a few words?? or if they'll think i've misremembered the title/didn't bother proofreading my ps for mistakes before submitting it
I'm not sure what book you have that is such a long title, but I would think you should be stating the exact published title honestly. With the potential caveat that if it's a really well known thing in the literary canon you might be able to get away with a more oblique reference to it.
Realistically: there are probably other areas in your PS you can re-word and/or cut back on before doing that.

thank you! it's a pretty obscure poetry collection but i hold it closely to my heart despite the title being a pain lool. i've already cut my ps down by ~500 words and i'm worried that anything more will dull it down a bit too much
will see what i can do though, tysm again for your input <3
