I'm currently doing a level 3 extended diploma in computing would grades of D*DD and an A in A level maths get me into the following unis for Computer science as I do meet the entry requirement and typical offers for it but I don't know if it gives u a good idea of if ur likely to get in
1)ST Andrews
2)Durham
3) Birmingham
4)Glasgow
5) Exeter

If you're sure it meets the requirements, then apply. You've got a generally good mix of courses, so you should expect a few offers.

Based on your predicted grades I see no reason why you should not get offers from the bottom 4.

It is not exactly clear from the St Andrews website whether you would satisfy their entry requirements. They accept BTECs but on the main entry requirements they state they require an A in Maths A level (which you would have) and a pass in one of the following - Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Further Mathematics, Geology, Geography, Physics, Psychology. Now it may be that as your BTEC is in Computing that may be taken in lieu of having a Computer Science A level. This is obviously conjecture so in your position I would contact their admissions team before applying.

Hi there apologies for the extremely late reply but I did check with ST Andrews and I would need another a level on their subject list on top of a level maths therefore thinking of replacing it with university of Bristol would be a good idea as my firm as my grades meet the entry requirements what are your thoughts as I don't know how hard it would be to get in with the grades I outlined.

You satisfy the criteria for Bristol so I would say you definitely have as good a chance as anyone else.

Is Exeter your fallback university if you don't get the grades you want? If not then I would definitely consider Southampton instead as their CS dept has a much better reputation. I also know people who have been to Exeter and Southampton and those who went to Southampton were a lot happier generally.

Yes Exeter is my insurance.

Thanks for your help i feel as if I'm just overthinking a bit as I'm skeptical about whether I would receive an offer from the bottom 4 as I see one thing and another which changes my mind whether I would get in or not I did do uni of Birmingham offer calculator with grades of D*DD and predicted grades of A*A* in maths and further maths and said I was unlikely for an offer which was weird so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage as I see others applying with very high grades either that or I'm just overthinking and making it seem harder than it actually is.

I would suggest that there is a problem with their software. The average UCAS entry tariff for the CS course at Birmingham is 166 points. If you had an A in Maths and D*DD that would give you 200 points alone. So there is definitely something amiss at their end. It might be worth contacting them but I think you can do better than Birmingham.

I looked at the entry requirements for Bristol, which has a very good reputation, but they only accept BTEC in Engineering. Whether they would consider Computing I don't know. I also looked at Bath, another good uni for CS, but their requirements are D*D*D with A in Maths. Now if you have predicted grades of A*A* in Maths & Further Maths they might consider an offer. Again I think it is worth either dropping them an email or ringing them.

If you are predicted A*A* in Maths & Further Maths you will get some decent offers. They are good grades. You are likely overthinking it and not giving yourself enough credit. Personally I think you need to start looking at other universities that accept BTECs. Warwick definitely. If in doubt contact them.

Ah ok I see all the unis I chose do accept BTEC alongside maths and correct me if I'm wrong but Bristol computer science page says it takes either a D*DD in BTEC Engineering or the same grade in any applied general BTEC which if I'm not wrong would fall under what I'm doing.

It does appear you are correct. I saw the engineering part but missed the rest. I feel you should definitely consider applying to Bristol. They have been building a good reputation for stem subjects. I would put them in the second tier for CS, below the likes of Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL etc.

Yes I definitely do agree with you especially now that I've picked up further maths I think my uni choices will remain the same I could swap Durham for ST Andrews as I'm doing further maths but Im having thoughts of firming Manchester as i do meet their requirements of D*DD and A*A* in maths and further maths but don't feel like it as i feel its competitive and im less likely to get in as I'm doing a BTEC in combination with maths and further maths.

You may be overthinking it again. If universities were not prepared to accept BTECs they wouldn't put them on their entry requirements. The fact that you are taking 2 A levels that are generally considered difficult, together with the BTEC, in my view shows that you have the capacity to interact with different disciplines. You will effectively have the equivalent of 5 A levels as well. Even Oxford accept BTECs.

Out of the universities you have mentioned I think you have a very good chance of getting interviews/offers from all of them if your personal statement is good enough. Your predicted grades are well above the average entry tariff for those universities. Just make sure you pick the right university for you.
