How do I break up with this guy?

We’ve been going out for about 7 months, but we haven’t really properly dated. He’s a lot more attached to me than I am to him. I think us dating was a bad choice- we’re more like friends, but anyways. I like him, he’s a nice guy, and I was to make it clear that it isn’t his fault. I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice over breaking up? I’m gonna do it over text- *****y, I know, but we only ever really talk on text now. Can I please get some help? Yes, I know I’m the issue, and I want to let him down gently.
