Physiotherapy - prereg post grad courses

I attended Cardiff open day and the applicant : spaces rate is 10:1 ie 1000 applicants and 90-odd student spaces for the BSc physio course.

Is this typical for all undergraduate courses and does any one have any details of the post grad pre- registration option ie is it less more or equal in terms of places available and applicant rates?

Applicant rates vary a lot by course and by uni, and it is something you would need to ask each uni. It doesn't matter where you study physio as all courses must reach the standards set by the HCPC (and the NHS won't care which uni you went to). Which other unis are you considering?

Considering all options within SW/ midlands and as far east as Bournemouth/Southampton . I have done work experience and loved PT and convinced it is the career for me but Biology is my weaker subject and might not get a B which seems to be the minimum that all courses require.

I love history - 9 in GCSE and predicted A/A* for A level and it would be my ideal to study history as an undergrad (and likely to get into RG uni) but it is an academic itch and not something I would take forward as a career. If it wasn’t for the prereg post grad option it would be clear cut to apply for PT undergraduate but the % applicant success rate worries me.

My other concern about the 2 year prereg of route is the intensity of the course if it covers whole syllabus in 1 year less - or reduced placement opportunities.

Two things to be aware of:

- a lot of pre-reg masters courses require a science or health undergrad

- if you normally live in England, it usually doesn't make financial sense to study a healthcare course in Wales. If you take the NHS Wales bursary, the reduced maintenance loan available from SFE probably won't be enough to cover your living costs. If you study at a uni in England, you would be eligible for the annual training grant from the NHS LSF.

Thank you I hadn’t realised the graduate needed to be related to do the post grad.
