extracurricular opportunities for a year 12?

So i started year 12 recently and i've been wanting to apply for different programmes or courses that could help make me a more appealing candidate and also allow me to explore my interests. My issue is that while im interested in getting a career in science i don't care for the medical field, nor finance or law which is what most programmes seem to be about. I was wondering if anyone knew of things i could possibly apply for with that in consideration?

I’d say make a unifrog account and look at some MOOCs on there they’re like a little virtual course you take you do 1- a few hours a week for a certain amount of weeks. You get videos and articles to watch about interesting specific topics to do with any subject you want to take at uni. It might give you an idea of what field you’d want to go into for science.

Def apply to summer schools too through Sutton trust. They will be beneficial in giving you a chance to explore different careers AND almost always give you a reduced offer for the university that you’re taking the summer school with. So for example if you wanted to apply for med or dent (Ik you aren’t but this is the only one I can think of sorry lol), you could apply for a summer school with university of Newcastle on Sutton trust and then you would complete it during July or six weeks holidays it’s literally like a week residential doing all sorts of stuff learning about the university and the course and the career you want to do and you get to speak to students and professionals in that field of work and practice what they do. And they give you a reduced offer up to 2 or 3 grades lower than standard entry requirements for that course and that uni. And writing about it in your personal statement is great. So apply to some summer schools on Sutton trust

work experience is great too, if you can find some for the career you’re looking into. maybe make a linkedin and connect to students around your age that have been in your position that have done cool work experiences, and stuff that made them stand out. Also connecting with science professionals on there.

I applied for Sutton trust pathways to law with LSE and got rejected but they accepted me into their online programme. Is this still useful and does it still look good?

yeah I know quite a few friends that have done the Sutton online programme. I think it helps you prepare for university application process if I’m not mistaken. I haven’t personally that one but in terms of general advice if it’s a online work experience thing and you’re learning stuff from them write some notes down to put into your personal statement, any new skills learned etc. I’d use the STARR technique. If it’s just a platform to help you with your university application process like giving you advice on personal statement, interviews etc. then still use it and get as much information as possible to help you prepare for your uni application and get ahead of your peers
