Rental issue – is this reasonable?

Early this month I moved in to a new flat with another person, who was a subtenant of me as I am renting the flat as a whole. When the person moved in, the person claimed to be staying until the end of the month and paid me a full month of rent. But today, the person suddenly moved out claiming to have found somewhere else and asked me to refund an amount of rent commensurate with the calendar days the person had not been able to stay.

How is this even reasonable? Not even hotels would readily allow this.

It’s not my responsibility if the person chose not to stay for the full month, is it?

What does the tenancy contract say?
I think 99.99% of landlords or even flatmates would tell someone to get ****ed here, you're getting hit for a full month of rent at least. Burt as above, what terms were agreed?
