Constituency date

Hi guys,
I’ve booked a holiday for the day after my holiday finishes but sixth form told us yesterday there was a consistency date that we have to be available till. Does anyone know if it’s sensible to carry on with the holiday or shall I change the dates ?

I assume you mean that you've "booked a holiday for the day after my exams finish" and that you were told yesterday of the contingency date.

This date is set aside such that if there is some nationwide issue (perhaps a severe weather event or similar) which means an earlier exam needs to be rescheduled, then this is the date which will be used. Which is why everyone is told to ensure that they're available on this date - just in case.

To my knowledge, they've never had to utilise the contingency date, and every year students head off on holiday without issue. However, if you don't rearrange this holiday now, you need to be prepared to do so at short notice (and likely greater cost) next June.

It all depends on your appetite for risk. The safer option is to rearrange the holiday. But that will likely turn out to have been unnecessary.
