The Student Room Group

do you think this is being racist?

i understand that my secondary school is mostly Christian but why just why?
we never had an assembly abt the muslim culture celebrations :frown:
like i asked my form tutor whether the school can have a Ramadhan assembly but she just said this:
'this school always has assemblies abt it, i will ask to have this'
but this was all a lie and we ended up not having hope
we always have to do assemblies abt christmas, easter and diwali etc but i feel left out as a muslim

Is there a school council or pupil voice where you can turn to?

Why must the world cater to the Muslim religion. If the school is mostly Christian then they dont have to change a thing, you should go somewhere where you are more happy though.

Na I don’t get your point here what’s the purpose of Religious Education being taught as a subject within a school then you explain that?

You should write a letter to the principal and say exactly what you said here and how it makes you feel, and especially for other muslim students.
You are doing the right thing, speak up.
I am Christian however if a school is a diverse school. The school should be making everyone feel they belong.

If she doesn't like it she can leave.

Title question: no, because being Christian or Muslim is about religion.

i know but like seeing that teachers only care about talking constantly about christmas, easter and diwali makes me feel left out
i understand it isn't only about muslims but tbh it just feels like they say they are 'multicultural' only to fake to parents that they actually care when they dont

I don't recall my school doing an assembly about Jewish holidays or and Buddhist things, did they hate the Jews and Buddhists? No. That would be absurd to say. This is the UK majority of people are not even religious let alone Muslim here, so makes sense they wouldn't be doing assemblies about a minority religion in a minority religous country.

Are you serious? There is nothing racist about this. A school can’t cater towards every single religion by having assemblies for them.
Can you please define the term racism and how it applies in this context?
definition - a person who believes that some races are better than others, or who acts unfairly to someone because of his or her race.
in this context we are forced to do christmas related activities even though we dont celebrate it and having to listen to christmas songs when we aren't allowed to listen to it

being judged all the time cause i wear hijab

having the month of fasting, but they don't even spread awareness of it by doing assemblies about it so that other ppl don't know what we are doing in our religion makes it hard and apparently a teacher says 'we do an assembly every year' but when i was there there wasn't any

a classmate lied about me to to the teacher, infront of the whole class and because the teacher is non muslim she believed it straight away, making me feel annoyed and when i try to give my side of the story the teacher said 'i have the power to call your parents, or i can give you detention/isolation/suspention (just for a lie)

the same teacher gave me a dirty look in class and i feel judged and unwelcome cause everyone keeps saying things to me that are hurtful

i understand that it is fine that all Christians are meant to be celebrate and that they are more important than everyone else, but it isn't fair for other students cause they don't feel welcome to the school/that they beliefs are cared for

and in yr7 the PE teacher never gave information about what we were meant to do when muslims are fasting

and other students acted as if they were better than different ppl cause they are only cared about me

also in classroom teachers are not nice to some students, but when OFSTED came the teachers faked being nice to us but in reality there were secrets i wish i told them

yeah cause didn't tell the teachers to do an assembly about it
and i know that the important religions in the UK are Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism.

i'm not saying they have to only care for muslims but what about the other religions that are not focused on or cared about?

when i feel upset in class, the teachers who are non muslim just see me and ignore it even if i wanted to cry but when it is other students they would help them out

i suffered in silence as i had so much trauma from the school about little things that teachers make a big deal

also i was bullied alot by ppl who were different then me cause they think they are better than me but teachers didnt care at all

Why have you missed Christianity off your list of important religions in the UK?
