Will GCSE resits make a difference for my economics application?

Hello, I am a sixth form student who wants to apply to UCL or Imperial to do economics related subjects (straight econ or joint honours with econ). I am concerned about my fairly mediocre GCSE results:

4 7s, 5 6s, and a 5.
7 in Maths, 6 in English Language, 5 in English Literature.

I realise I didn't put in as much effort as I should have, and am now motivated to do anything that's best for my application to these top tier universities. I want to resit Maths and those English GCSEs, but I am concerned about two things:
Will my retake grades even be considered?
Will having retakes on my application negatively affect me?

I'd appreciate all responses so much, thank you

Hiya!

I am going into econ at Glasgow, and from what they told me and what I've heard from other universities are that GCSEs are mostly only considered when there at 2 students with the same A Level results looking for the same place, with equally good personal statements, GCSEs are considered to draw a final verdict. This is obviously a very specific scenario and its unlikely you would end up in this position. In terms of resitting, it may be worth it depending on what your A level predictions are (but i wouldn't worry about resitting maths as a 7 is an A and is more than enough). Finally, if you do decide to resit, of course it wouldnt negatively affect you, they only consider the final result.
