Geography PGCE without a geography degree

I've recently been considering pursuing a PGCE, and the subject that stands out to me the most is Geography. Although I chose Geography at A-Level, teaching it wasn't on my mind when I went to university, so I ended up studying Business.

However, I can't really see myself becoming a Business teacher, and I'm much more passionate about teaching Geography. Does anyone know if it's possible to teach Geography without having a degree in it?

Also, I haven't been able to find any information online about a Geography SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement) course. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi @Aimeedaviesx

It's lovely to hear that you are passionate about pursuing a career in teaching. Being accepted onto a course without a degree but an A level in your preferred subject is really down to the training providers you apply to. There are various options available to you. I would recommend that you register with The Get Into Teaching Service to speak with an adviser about these. You can register using the link below:

It would also be useful to attend Get Into Teaching events where you can speak with different training providers about your situation. You can find and register for events using the link below:

The very best of luck.

I'm in the same boat, but I have a BSc in Archaeology which could be seen as somewhat related. I'll be applying next month once the applications open and also open to doing an SKE. Let me know how you get on 🙂
