Final year amount

Hope this is the right forum.
Please can an SFE rep explain how the maintenance loan is calculated in the final year?

SFE refused this information by phone. They said I can't speak to an assessor.

Online information is limited.

I know it is a reduced amount and is only up to the last date, final term, but how is it calculated please?

There must be a formula.

Hi there,

If you go to the Gov.UK website and put in student finance calculator in the search bar you will be able to input your information and it will tell you how much you should be eligible for.

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew

That does not work for the final year, only the first two years.

Appreciate your reply though.

I need to know how the loan is calculated in the final year please? There must be a formula or something along these lines.

SFE have been unhelpful by phone with regard to this.

I am an unhappy parent customer. 🙂

Hi there,

I am unaware of how they calculate it and they do not provide us with a formula. A student is paid less in the final year as we will pay to the graduation date and not the end of the academic year. The thresholds for the household income are also lower so this can affect the entitlement.

Thanks, Drew

I know why they are paid less, but how can I discover how they come to the final year amount please?

Can you reps on here enquire?

I find it unacceptable that this information is not available, no disrespect to you.

I need to check the amount my daughter is being paid but I can't do it, as SFE won't say how they calculate the final year. I can't find it online. I even gave an appeal a whirl, as I think the amount is not correct, in the hope I could dig a bit, but it was obviously knocked back.

It is obviously not as simple as knocking off the equivalent amount pro-rata per month in that last summer, so how is it calculated..

Hi there,

Unfortunately I would not be able to find this for you as it is calculated on the system and we do not have access to view this.

Thanks, Drew

Can you ask how I can find out please? SFE were unhelpful by phone. They said it is 'not our job' to tell you this (I get that this is partly because they don't know). However, no assessors could or would speak to me. No managers available. Can't find it online. Even tried an appeal which obviously did not work.

Who can I contact?

Where can I go?

This lack of information is not on, no disrespect to you.

You would be doing a service to others on here.

Hi there,

I have checked with a manager and we are unable to provide how this is calculated as it is done through a system with the details provided. You would not be able to speak to an assessor as they are not customer facing and they would not know how it is calculated. The same would be for a manager as they would not know how it is calculated.

Thanks, Drew

Thanks for asking.

So blocked at every turn, again, no disrespect to you intended.

So where do I go to get the information please, in your organisation?

Surely it cannot be right that the public, SFE 'customers', are basically refused this information.

Or will it need to be complaint to an MP?

Hi there,

I do not think we will be able to provide this information and I could not advise who to contact. I can only apologise for that.

Thanks, Drew

Thanks for replying.

I am a bit disappointed that you reps on here have not been able to provide any information really or point me in some sort of direction.

I wasted my time here, in this forum, as you representatives could not advise who to contact for information. I appreciate you at least replying.

I can only say that SFE provide a poor service at times (not the reps on here though).

You don't need to apologise.

I don't like SFE'S lack of transparency.
It is government-funded after all.

I see the only way is to approach this externally.
