Which uni

In the process of applying to dentistry but I’m a bit stuck on where’s worth applying. I have a degree in biomed with a 2:1, my a levels are preventing me from some places (BCC) and my ucat was 2400 and gamsat was 55. Unfortunately I think my only option will be to redo ucat/gamsat and put more effort into studying them. But is there anywhere that will even consider me in this application cycle?

Hey, I'm also in a similar boat UCAT 2550 B1 predicted 2.1 Biomed. You should give Plymouth a try as they only rank GAMSAT score for interviews and think in previous years cut-off has been 49/50 for interview.

Aside from the GED courses the 5 year courses which don't look at A Levels listed below:

Cardiff

Dundee

Kings

Leeds

Newcastle

Plymouth (GAMSAT)

QMUL

Sheffield

I'm currently waiting on decile rankings to see where my score will lie

Thankyou! I’ve done some research, and with my grades at a level and my ucat, I’m restricted to Leeds, KCL and Plymouth, all the others unfortunately deffo care about grades (Cardiff said outright no lol) or my ucat doesn’t even come close. May look into applying for a medicine too as a fourth choice but then comes the difficultly of writing a personal statement to fit both

Really? That's taken me by surprise because I thought that Cardiff are content with just the degree grade for Biomed I thought the same for Dundee so were planning on adding those two. Did you email the uni's and get that response? I was referring to the Dental Schools Council 2025 entry requirements: DSC-Entry-Requirements-entry-2025.pdf (dentalschoolscouncil.ac.uk)

So I know Plymouth doesn't use the personal statement to assess an applicants criteria but Kings and Leeds do. I am looking at applying to Warwick and Chester (both exclusive GEM courses) considering that they don't use the PS at all in their assessment of an application.

Have you looked at UCLan? They're an exclusive GED course if you're interested, Kings offer a GED route too but I'm assuming you were referring to applying for their standard 5 -year entry?

It looks like Cardiff may of changed their admission policy. Which would be amazing as it’s my home city and I’d save a huge chunk on rent! Unfortunately they’re very slow at replying and I can’t find a phone number. Just emailed again to ask them to clear it up.

Hey,

So I think you ma have been right. I found a list of the Dental schools which accept grad applicants onto their standard entry BDS and their respective entry requirements.

Cardiff states that as well as a min 2.1 Honours degree and ABB at A Level to include Bio + Chem, GCSE requirements must also be met. Had a look on their site and this refers to English Lang at grade B and six other GCSEs including AA/77 in Double Award Science or Bio + Chem as separate subjects.
