Switching from Tuition loans only to Maintenance & Tuition fees support as a M.Worker

Hi all,

I have a current application for tuition fee loans only as I am non-EU student with pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, while one of my parents has been an EEA national working & living in England for over 3 years. I discovered that there is a better way to do this if I'm eligible for maintenance loans too as a (family member of a) migrant worker only just recently and given the time it's quite the headache.

As such in combination with the fact I would also look for & work during my studies in first year of my academic course, I want to apply as a migrant workers which covers both tuition and maintenance support. After calling SfE I was told that I would have to cancel my current application (EU24N) for a PN1 form, which
if that is true necessitates I have to wait when I have information for how much i'll be making then and wait for them to process the application again.

So this is my dilemma: Either
- I finish the application pending now and get my tuition fee loans that will help cover the the first payment wrt my tuition, but I'm stuck fending for myself and my family for the rather expensive first year living costs. OR
- Delay a decision and start a new application which I could reasonably expect to be processed in January by the time of getting evidence & waiting, which has the chance of getting the maintence loan which would be of great help as well as tuition fee support (and possibly a bursary as well, overall i think this is slow but worth it) OR
- Maybe i'm stupid and I can start one right now cuz of a family member who's been a working for years (I'll be working anyways)

Of course after some time I will get my settled status and apply for that in second or third year of college, but thats a whiles away

Any information of how this new application is processed and assessed, what other requirements that aren't so obviously specified, and general opinions of what I could/should do next will be much appreciated.

Hi there,

What nationality are you? What nationality is your parent and how old are you? Has you Tuition Fee Loan application been approved? You would not need to cancel this application as we would process your new application and then remove your old application once it was approved.

Thanks, Drew

My nationality is Hong Kong Chinese whereas my parent is an Irish citizen, no tuition loan application has been approved yet as I lost my identity document in the mail last week and will send another this week by more reliable means.
EDIT: to clarify it was my residence card that was lost by royal mail, I've filed a claim for lost item and hopefully they do find it, but in the meantime i'm debating on giving my passport to process the current application.

So are you saying that after this application has processed, I am not restricted from making a new one during my academic year and remove the old one? Thanks for replying

Hi there,

As you are not an EU national you cannot apply as a Migrant Worker by yourself for your work. Does your parent live in the UK and how old are you? Yes you would need to complete a paper PN1 form and this would remove your old application.

Thanks, Drew

Yes she came to the UK same time I arrived and has lived here for over 3 years, I am 19 years old as of writing

Would the evidence then require her to send invoices or contracts of her employment and will this help me to get a maintenance loan? And just to clarify I'm not being barred or prevented from completing another form after this one has been assessed and processed on the website right?

Much obliged

Hi there,

You would need to complete the paper PN1 form and this would be posted to us. You would also need to post us your mums valid passport and your birth certificate. We would need to see a copy of your mums employment contract and this must include her employment start date, contracted hours per week and it must be signed and dated by the employer or employee. We would also ask for the last 3 months of your mums payslips. It can take 6-8 weeks to process.

Thanks, Drew
