Smile at them and say hello/good morning, etc, would probably be a good start and try and engage in small talk (even if it is a bit painful - I'm autistic so it definitely is for me).

A spontaneous act of kindness, such as a warm smile or a simple greeting will do. I have a schoolmate who is quite quiet—I’m a bit reserved myself, but I’ve noticed she doesn’t smile very often. So, I make it a point to greet her every morning without expecting anything in return. It's just sort of my social experiment. One day, she left me a note saying, "Thank you for greeting me with a smile each morning. I appreciate it."

I think its also important to always be considerate and treat them with kindness
